The Catalina Council has been assessing a $20 per year insurance fee at registration for all youth and adults in our traditional programs, and pro-rating that amount throughout the year. Starting August 1, 2020, that insurance fee is being replaced by what we now call a Council program fee and will be set at $12 per year.
Our goal is to make Scouting available and affordable to as many families as possible. The world pandemic and resulting economic disruption has greatly affected our operations and model of business. The national BSA Council’s bankruptcy filing has also affected us, and more importantly all of you with their recent need to again raise membership fees.
As a reminder new national fees effective August 1 for new members; and for all at recharter will be:
- Youth in traditional programs $60 to $66 (plus one time $25 joining fee for all new members)
- Exploring & Scoutreach $36 to $42 (Exploring will also continue with their local $3 insurance fee)
- Adults $36 to $42
- STEM Scout fees will remain the same
With these fee increases in mind our Council leadership agreed to a lower Council program fee for our traditional youth and adults of $12 per year beginning August 1st on a prorated basis for any new members, and for all at recharter. Unlike some neighboring Scout Councils who have raised their local program fees to $60 or more, we thought during this pandemic it was more important to make it as low as possible for families to participate in Scouting in southern Arizona. In addition, we will continue to offer registration assistance to those families in need. This new fee has also been integrated into our online registration and recharter systems, so units have the flexibility to handle all of these transactions online.
