A Den Chief is a Scout, Venturer or Sea Scout assisting a Cub Scout den. But the story is far more important than those words suggest as the Den Chief:
- Serves as a Scouting role model for the Cub Scouts in the den, as well as the entire pack;
- Promotes Scouting in general and the local troop in particular;
- Encourages the transition of Webelos Scouts into Boy Scouting;
- Holds a leadership position in the troop or crew, thus fulfilling an advancement requirement in the unit.
In addition, a trained Den Chief:
- Assists the den leader with planning and conducting den meetings;
- Understands the Cub Scouting program and the differences between Cub Scouts and other Scouting programs;
- Understands the den leader’s duties and confidently helps lead portions of the den meeting program;
- Knows a variety of resources for age-appropriate activities for Cub Scouts in the den;
- Brings a repertoire of activities that Cub Scouts enjoy.
This training is designed to build on each of these ideas using a framework that will allow the new Den Chief, or perhaps the experienced Den Chief looking for new ideas, to have fun and learn the role.
The following link allows you to launch the online version of the training. Please note that their is no tracking and if you exit from the training prior to the completion of it and without printing your certificate you will have to restart the training from the beginning.

Announcing we have two open slots for Sea Base 2019 – St. Croix U.S. V.I. Scuba Diving Adventure. We will be the FIRST CREW EVER to do this adventure. This is the first time Sea Base is offering scuba diving in St. Croix. The time frame for this is approx. June 2 – June 12, 2019. We are also planning to three days of additional diving after SB. While on the trip we will be in the U. S. Virgin Island’s pristine coral reefs, with sea turtles, countless species of fish, wreck diving and explore the underwater world of St. Croix.
The cost is approx. $2500.00 for the entire trip. Any Scout(s) or Venture(s) male or female 13 years and older are able to attend. If you are a female interested in going you will need to provide a female adult leader as well.
Scouts or Scouters need to be scuba certified before leaving for SB. You can be certified through any accredited scuba diving program. If you are not, no problem, I am willing to help them get certified as well. While on the trip, I will be offering Scouts the chance to get their Advanced Open Water for around $90. You will also have the opportunity to work on several specialty dives as well.
If you or if you know anyone that would be interested in going they can contact me. You contact John Longhofer if you have other questions at 520-990-4442 or email firstname.lastname@example.org

In 1846 the United States Army ask Mormon leader Brigham Young to provide enough volunteers to form an entire battalion of over 500 soldiers for military service during the Mexican- American war. These men became known as the Mormon Battalion and marched on foot over 2000 miles, much of it in uncharted territory. It is still the longest U.S. Army march in U. S. History.
The Battalion also played a role in the history of Southern Arizona, then a part of Mexico. The battalion entered Tucson in December of 1846 and without firing a shot at the Mexican soldiers stationed at the Tucson garrison, raised the American flag for the first time over Tucson. The Boy Scouts of America, Catalina Council, has joined with select non-profit history-based organizations in celebrating the 170th year of the release of the last of the subgroup known as The Mormon Battalion Volunteers.
In partnering with select history based organizations, the council has provided many opportunities for our Scouts to register for special merit badge classes to further their advancement, obtain free passes, and enjoy the services provided by our partnering organizations.
