SCV EAGLE PROJECT APPROVAL PROCESS AND EAGLE BOARD OF REVIEW
The Santa Cruz Valley District Advancement Committee offers the following helpful information to Unit Leaders and their Scouts seeking District approval of proposed Eagle Projects.
Please schedule an Eagle Scout Project Review, or an Eagle Board of Review, one month in advance by contacting SCV Eagle Scout Board Coordinator William Cockrell at 520-429-7487 santacruzeaglereview@gmail.com.
The SCV District Eagle Scout Project approvals or Eagle Boards of Review take place on the SECOND Thursday of the month at 7 PM at the Sahuarita LDS Stake Center, located at 16275 S. Starlight View Lane, Sahuarita.
These meetings will be the ONLY review and approval meetings so the Scout will need to plan accordingly.
The Scout must wear the formal Scout uniform and will need to bring paper and a writing utensil to take notes.
Eagle Scout Project approvals or Eagle Boards of Review in the Santa Cruz Valley District are reviewed by the SCV District Advancement Committee. Please DO NOT take your Eagle Scout Service Project Workbook to the Council Service Center for approval.
PROCESS:
Schedule Eagle Scout Project Review one month in advance by contacting SCV Eagle Scout Board Coordinator
Submit your project proposal using the Eagle Scout Service Project Workbook format (UPDATED 2014 Printing)
The appropriate signatures must be obtained prior to the District Advancement Eagle Project review meeting. Approvals signatures that are needed on Proposal page E are: Unit Leader, Unit Committee, and Beneficiary. If signatures are missing, the workbook WILL NOT be reviewed.
Scout MUST obtain project approval from the Santa Cruz Valley Advancement Committee BEFORE starting a project. The Scout is responsible and MUST call the Santa Cruz Valley District Advancement Chairman to setup an appointment to have his Eagle Scout Service Project Proposal Workbook scheduled for a review.
Once project is completed, it is suggested that the Scout assemble an Eagle Scout binder with information supporting your request for Eagle Scout Rank.
Complete and enclose the Eagle Scout Rank Application (UPDATED 2016 Printing)
Enclose Project Workbook, Eagle Application, and supporting attachments in the binder. It is suggested that Scout uses a 3-ring binder or a folder/binder with either a zipper or a rubber band around so paperwork stays contained
Information to be typed or written in a way that ensures legibility.
Make sure Eagle book is labeled on the outside with Scout name, Troop number, and contact number.
Here are some unofficial ideas on assembling an Eagle Scout binder. They are suggestions, you may assemble your book anyway you think is more effective:
How to assemble an Eagle Scout Binder
How to make an Eagle binder
Suggested site for Eagle Scout to write requesting ~ Congratulatory Lettershttp://usscouts.org/eagle/eaglecongrats.asp (WEB address as the link)
Submit Eagle Scout Binder to the Catalina Council Service Centerlocated at 5049 E. Broadway Blvd. Suite 200, Tucson, AZ. (Suggest that binder is hand-delivered so you are available to answer any questions from Council.)
Council Center reviews the binder, and sends to BSA National in Irving, TX. (Approx. time 2-3 weeks)
BSA National reviews the binder, logs workbook information into database, and returns to Council (Approx. time 2-3 weeks)
Council will contact SCV District Eagle Scout Coordinator/Chair who will inform the candidate to set up Eagle Rank Board of Review date.
Attend Eagle Scout Rank Board of Review
Be prepared. Bring all information. Wear official formal uniform.
“The Scout’s parents, relatives, or guardians should not be in attendance in any capacity—not as members of the board, as observers, or even as the unit leader. Their presence can change the discussion dynamics. For Scouts with special needs, see additional information under topic 10.2.2.0.” (Parents may wait outside the room until BoR is complete.)
If Scout passes the Eagle Board of Review:
Please email a picture of Eagle Scout with his name and Troop number to the SCV webmaster at victoria-manny@hotmail.com
If desired, plan and organize your Eagle Scout Court of Honor
If Scout does not pass the Eagle Board of Review, the Advancement Board will meet with Scout, his Scoutmaster, and parents to explain he reason and come up with a course of action. If SM or parents are not available, then the Board will set up a meeting with the Scout, the parent/guardian and SM.
