Wilderness First Aid Basics is a 16 hour first aid course designed for people who find themselves in remote locations where emergency is often delayed. The Wilderness and Remote First Aid Course topics include: scene and patient assessment; wound care; head, neck, and back care; illness treatment; allergies and anaphylaxis; burns; evacuations; and more. Teaching will occur in both classroom and outdoor settings that allow participates hands-on scenarios and simulations. National Jamboree Staff, Philmont, Northern Tier, Florida Sea Base, Summit Bechtel Reserve and all council-operated high adventure bases require that a least two persons (either adults or youth participants) in each crew be currently certified in Wilderness First Aid and CPR. Participants will learn how to assess, treat, and (when possible) contain emergencies within the scope of their training. Youth and adult Scout leaders over age 14 are invited to participate and earn their certification. Certification is good for two years.
