Eagle Scout Connor Di Maria with Troop 186 just received his 100th Merit Badge. Scoutmaster Mc Williams awarded his achievement with a special Scout pin during the Troops COH.

Hunter Ridley and troop 772 completed his Eagle project in September 2022.  Hunter’s project was the restoration of a playground and installation of picnic benches at a safe space for children in the dependency process.  In addition to providing a fun area for the children to play, the project saved the organization funds, which enabled a rare and much-appreciated outing.

Pack 241 recently visited the Marana Police Station and a went on a hike with a Naturalist and expert on native plants and animals.

It was another glorious day at Camp Lawton for our Improvement Day. Our Friends of Camp Lawton volunteer team was small but mighty, and we accomplished so much! Nothing better after hours of hauling tree debris than to sit down under blue skies, take in some sunshine, and have some cookies and ice cream!!  Thank you to everyone that helped out. We look forward to seeing you in April. – Rebecca Harry, Improvement Day Chair

Photos from this week’s NOAC. What is NOAC? It is the National Order of the Arrow Conference.  The event attracts Arrowmen from the all over the US and the world for a week of fun, fellowship, and training. Many Arrowmen also trade patches during the event, which happens every two years.  This year it was held at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.

Troop 141 participated in a cleanup of
Esperero Canyon Middle School outdoor area on 16th of April.
April was the second annual Community Do a Good Turn Month. Earth Day and Arbor day are also celebrated in April. Combining these three events, on April 23 and 24th, Troop 772 performed a service project in conjunction with the National Fire Protection Association’s Firewise USA program. The program provides a collaborative framework to help neighbors in a geographic area get organized, find direction, and take action to increase the ignition resistance of their homes and community and reduce wildfire risks at the local level. Scouts removed plant debris around residences on Mt. Lemon to reduce the danger to residences of wildfire. The residents donated over $600 that the scouts will vote on how to distribute to charitable organizations. The scouts camped on the mountain and had hot dogs for dinner.

Cub Scout Pack 241 completed a Community Good Turn Project. We worked on “brushing” on the Desert Discovery Trail inside Saguaro National Park. We basically cleaned the trail of vegetation encroaching on the corridor. We had 11 participants total. Four registered Cub Scouts, one sibling, two registered adult leaders, and four parents. We worked with a member of the trails team from the park.

The Scouts earned three merit badges, retired 2 flags, and cooked 5 meals along with S’mores at the campfire under a full moon. Joaquin Galindo’s Eagle project on March 26th at the Arizona Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Marana. There were 36 volunteers that turned out from Pack 241, Troop 299, Troop 241, Girl Scouts, Catalina Council, and NWMC Outpatient Therapy. Rock along columbarium walls was replaced, memorial benches were built and installed, and the cactus garden was removed and relocated throughout the cemetery. The memorial plaques even got some cleaning. It was a successful group effort made by a diverse and enthusiastic team!

Our Pinewood Derby Champ Camp this past Saturday was great! Despite the road construction, they were laying that one strip of asphalt, during the event, we had a really good turnout!

We cut about 103 cars out! Liz and Evan Knepp, the rest of their family, and Michael and Mr. Brooks all came out to volunteer to help with power tools that let the kids get their cars designed, cut, sanded, weighed, painted and tested on the track! We had several stations set up out back, all socially distanced. Lots of families came out and we had a ton of kids go home happy with their cars and ready for their race day!
