Meet Our Honorable Chair: Howard Stewart

Howard N. Stewart is the President/CEO of AGM Container Controls (AGM), a Tucson-based employee-owned manufacturing company with 135 employees. AGM specializes in manufacturing environmental protection hardware for containers that transport missiles, engines, and delicate equipment. They also produce innovative products for individuals with disabilities, such as the Ascension wheelchair lift and the Omeo hands-free, self-balancing wheelchair.

In recognition of his exceptional leadership, Howard was named Tucson’s Small Business Leader of the Year in 2002 and America’s Best Small Business of the Year by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in 2009. His commitment to his employees and the community has earned him numerous accolades, including Southern Arizona’s CEO of the Year in 2018.

Howard is passionate about investing in his employees’ education and career development. AGM offers comprehensive college tuition reimbursement to all employees, leading to a significant number of employees pursuing higher education. In 2019 alone, 27% of AGM’s workforce attended college, taking a total of 124 college classes. This commitment not only benefits the employees but also contributes to the overall success of AGM and the Greater Tucson community.

In 2021, Howard’s innovative and passionate approach to education was further recognized by the Arizona Commerce Authority and the Arizona Technology Council, who named him Arizona’s Transformative Leader of the Year.
