Improvements include a large stone Ramada equipped with picnic tables, restrooms, and water misters for cooling. The ranch also has an Olympic-size swimming pool.

Concern
Currently campers stay in canvas tents on wooden platforms that require ongoing maintenance and support.
Goal
Our goal is to provide a superior outdoor experience for our Scouts at camp.
Proposed Solution
Build a more permanent Adirondack that will sleep two people. Adirondack would have Trex decking, Hardy plank siding, metal roofs, and built-in bunks. This solution will decrease maintenance time and costs and enable us to spend funds on providing a great outdoor experience for our youth at camp.
Benefits
Much better sleeping accommodations for Scouts and Scouters that attend camp. Will also make Camp Lawton usable year-round. Adirondacks will be usable for non-Scouting groups that want to use Camp Lawton and enjoy Mt. Lemmon.
*TO MAKE RESERVATIONS FOR THE ADIRONDACKS, please contact Joanie Rivard at joanie.leerivard@scouting.org or 520-750-0385

Camp Lawton and Boy Scouts of America
Selected as a 2015 Angel Charity for Children Grant Recipient
Angel Charity for Children announced that they are granting $275,000 to the Catalina Council, Boy Scouts of America for projects at Camp Lawton.
Below are some Frequently Asked Questions about this amazing news:
What are the projects being funded by Angel Charity for Children?
The projects being funded are designed to improve the sleeping and eating facilities at Camp Lawton. Specifically, the projects are (select each project for more details and information about that particular project):
75 New Adirondacks throughout the camp
Dining Hall Deck to increase seating capacity
Kamper Kitchen in the Cabin area
New Tables and Chairs for the Dining Hall
How will the projects be built?
Most of the projects are being built with volunteer help. The Frontiersman will give updated details on work days at Camp Lawton for the projects.
When does the funding come to the Council?
The funding from Angel Charity for Children will not come to the Council until the projects have been completed and at the earliest April of 2016. The Council is securing a line of credit to provide funding now to begin the projects. The cost of the line of credit is built into the grant from Angel Charity for Children.
When will the projects be built?
The Adirondacks are beginning immediately. We will try to build as many as possible before summer camp begins in June. Our progress will be determined by the number of volunteers helping with the project.
The Dining Hall deck and Kamper Kitchen need permits approved by Pima County before construction can begin. Our hope is to complete the Dining Hall deck prior to summer camp. The Kamper Kitchen is a material kit that has to be pre-fabricated and delivered to Camp Lawton.
How can people help?
Please volunteer to help with construction of the projects. Many hands make light work. There are many tasks for those with little construction experience and skills. The Frontiersman will have details on work days. You can also contact Kevin Rio, Council Ranger, directly by emailing him at kevin.rio@scouting.org to schedule time to help out.
How will the summer camp program be impacted?
Hopefully, several projects can be completed prior to the beginning of summer camp. Construction within camp will be suspended during the summer camp program with the exception of the Kamper Kitchen which is being built in the cabin or staff area and should not impact the program.
Can we use the money for other things?
No. The funds are restricted by the donor, Angel Charity for Children, for the purpose of the projects which were listed above and approved for the grant.
Thank you to Angel Charity for Children and their wonderful support of Camp Lawton this year!
