Thank you for supporting Scouting in Southern Arizona

Tell me where people from all nationalities, religions, political beliefs and skin color can come together and get along? The answer is Scouting. I had the great opportunity to represent Scouting USA and Catalina Council at the World Jamboree this past summer.

During the last 2 weeks of July 2019 almost 50,000 people came together from all over the world. We ate together, shared tents, laughed together and yes sometimes cried together and worked together. I can tell you first hand that I did not hear of any conflicts let alone see any conflicts all I saw was cooperation and smiles.

Scouting helps young people learn how to become mature participating members of society. In my opinion, the rest of the world needs to take the lead from Scouting.

As the World Jamboree was winding down, individuals started swimming out into Lake Tickle to place their national flag on a concrete structure. What brought the whole picture together was the sign that was also placed on the structure…”It’s all about Unity.”

This is why we need to support “Friends of Scouting.” We are teaching our youth how to support each other and how to co-exist. Or, in more simple terms, COMMUNITY! It is this message that will move our society forward and make this world a better place to live.
