Participants in the two-day Trainer Course learn Leave No Trace skills and ethics as well as techniques for educating others about these low impact practices.
Trainer Courses typically take place over two consecutive days and involve spending more than half of the course outdoors. Graduates of a Trainer Course are prepared to offer Leave No Trace Awareness Workshops to their community.
Open to BSA members only, Adults must be current on YPT, all participants shall be 14 years old and older at the start of the training.
Course Description: Participants will backpack approximately five miles and receive hands-on training in Leave No Trace skills, ethics, and seven principles. Other related topics may be discussed. You will present a 10-15 minute “Leave No Trace” presentation/demonstration, to be assigned before attendance and presented on the trail. Master Educators for this course will be John Bird, Joe Reilly, & Cindy Reilly (admin).
Recognition: Upon completion of the course, trainers will receive the Leave No Trace Trainer patch from the Leave No Trace, along with a course certificate.
Training materials for the course, Friday evening cracker-barrel and Saturday meals (breakfast, lunch & dinner). Please eat before arriving for the course Friday evening.
- Copy of current BSA Medical form Parts A & B (returned upon completion of course),
paper and pen. - BSA Ten Essentials and closed-toe hiking shoes/boots
- Clothing appropriate for weather conditions.
- Your personal needs, such as medication.
- Please bring your own snacks and drinks if you have a special diet. If you have any food allergies or needs, please communicate.
- Personal “Big 3” equipment (backpack, tent/shelter, sleeping system)
